I was comfortable here for my two nights in Joal. The bed was great, with a mosquito net and fan, and the rooms had everything working at an affordable price. It’s right by the beach and the island, with small shops and a few local restaurants nearby. The terraces and shared spaces would suit a longer stay too. Thanks for a lovely find!

Don’t stay here. The place feels kind of fake, and the house looks abandoned. The host didn’t reply, and I didn’t want to find out what it was like inside. We couldn’t choose somewhere else. Even one star feels too generous.

Joseph and his sister welcomed us at the last minute, and we had a good night at La Femme Noire. Joseph was a great guide to the granaries at Mille, the famous cemetery, and Shell Island. Many thanks to them both.

Joseph suggested visiting the two islands and taking a canoe trip, and talked us through it all along the way. He and his sister were so helpful. The rooms were cool and clean, and everyone was incredibly kind. I’d really recommend staying here.

Joseph was lovely and took us to Fadiouth Island and on a pirogue tour. The terrace is beautiful, and the price is very competitive. Our room was spacious and generally clean, though the bathroom has no door. On our last day, two big spiders appeared on the wall.
