The setting is simple, with a superb location facing the ocean. Breakfast is limited, but it’s a good spot for a short stay.

The hotel was much less impressive in reality than it looked in the photos, which was disappointing at first. Still, it’s clean and has amenities, and the service was excellent with extremely friendly staff.

The beach is very dirty, so we went to the hotel next door to find a slightly cleaner patch. For the price, though, the room size and quality are the best in all of St Louis. The old town is a five-minute taxi ride for £1, or a 20-minute walk through the fishing village.

The sea view is lovely, and there’s a swimming pool. Breakfast is included but very light. You can order dinner, and they cook fish, chicken, and other dishes very well. The price is accessible, and they’re always reachable by phone. The old doors are difficult to close and need renovating. Privacy is very limited, though there’s also somewhere for runners.
