Iris Toubab Hotel

The staff were really friendly when I stopped by the hotel bar for food and drinks a few times. It’s a pleasant place to stay and relax, with a clean pool and bar, nice beach access, and an ocean view. The food, though, isn’t good and costs a lot. The pizza barely seemed like pizza, with dough that was too thin and the wrong dough and cheese. If you eat there, I’d go for the burger. It was just okay and not too expensive.

We came as a group for dinner on our last night in Senegal, and the staff made us feel welcome. There was a wide choice at the buffet, the food was delicious, and it was quite affordable. Having the waves in the background made for a lovely setting. I’d definitely recommend it.

Six people in my group had money stolen, including dollars and CFAs. One person lost as much as $1,000, and the others lost between $100 and $300. It happened across six separate rooms in different hotel buildings, so I’m sure they weren’t all cleaned by the same person. This hotel has a serious theft problem. We’d go out with our cash and valuables, and it seems the thefts happened when we returned from group tours, relaxed, and went to dinner. The staff are not decent human beings. It’s a shame, because the theft wiped out anything good I might have said about the location or service. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The general feeling is that this place is well managed. The bathrooms were very clean, and the pool was a pleasure to use. There’s a hotel restaurant and bar 64 km from Dakar center, with an affordable buffet on Sundays. I didn’t have time to look at the rooms.
