The rooms stay cool and get good airflow through the screened windows, with fans and proper mosquito nets too. Upstairs there’s a balcony looking out over the surrounding rooftops, and out back I loved the covered patio, hammocks, and just hanging around with the rabbits, guests, and staff. The atmosphere, rooms, and food were all great, and there are fresh herbs for tea. They take USD, Euros, and SRD. They also run trips to Jaw Jaw, which I hope to join on my next visit. Don’t let the lack of a website put you off.

The best part of my stay would be a trip to Jaw Jaw on the Upper Suriname River. Belé, the brother, runs amazing tours at reasonable prices, 120 $ all inclusive, and you can spend 2-3 days living in the village. It’s an amazing experience. The place itself is an old Dutch house with just a few rooms, a lot of space, a cozy restaurant on a shaded terrace, and a laid-back area full of books. Highly recommend arranging the tour.

I ended up staying 7 nights, so I clearly enjoyed it. It’s a cheap place, so don’t expect much luxury, but even my mother liked it. There’s a great spot to relax out back, and the restaurant serves really good Brazilian food.

We stayed here as a family with small kids and found it comfortable for both us and solo travelers. The pool was nice, and the dinners were excellent, with a high-end feel at a budget price. Getting around was easy, with things either within walking distance or a short taxi ride away.

We learned to make Javanese-style bami-chicken in a fantastic Surinamese cooking workshop. The price was very reasonable, and the historic setting was beautiful and well cared for. Priskilla was a cheerful, patient chef, and Rishmy made us feel welcome. A worthwhile thing to do in the city, highly recommended.
