Sunset Surf Villa

The garden was great, with lots of hammocks and a pool to cool off in, which you need in March. There was music in the evening, but it got quiet after 10 since most people were up early. The kitchen was large, with two fridges and lots of room for dry groceries. There was FRE COFFEE every morning, and the rooms had air conditioning. The hostel wasn’t offering surf lessons while I was there, though I believe boards were available to rent. They suggested lesson options at nearby beaches. My main downside was that the room lockers either wouldn’t lock or the lock got stuck.

We paid 137 USD for three people for two nights in the dorms, and the pool, one of the few amenities, was dirty and unusable because of a problem with the water cleaning system. When we asked for a discount or some other compensation, the manager wasn’t interested. She offered one measly beer. On the second day there was no water at all, so we left without showering. The place looks nice, and the hot showers worked on the first day, but not the next. The mattresses were soft, and the beds shook whenever the other person moved. It’s far from everything, with little to do nearby, and the atmosphere wasn’t very social. Most people seemed to be volunteers who didn’t interact with guests. The employees’ attitude felt unpleasant, and we didn’t feel welcome.

The mattress was a bit weak, and getting anywhere means taking a very cheap chicken bus or an Uber. Still, it’s worth it. The hotel is super cute, and the outdoor area is a place where you could spend days relaxing. The bathroom was perfect, and the kitchen was fully equipped.

Check-in was confusing, with nobody knowing what was going on or giving me much information. The place felt odd and dead, like mostly volunteers were living there and guests just drifted in. It felt like I was intruding. I booked because they offer yoga, which is nice, and lounging in the hammocks was pleasant too, but neither made it worth staying. The property itself is okay, though the pool was fairly dirty. I was glad to leave. STAY AT SALTY DOGS INSTEAD. Wish I’d gone there first.
