It was my first trip to St. Maarten, and it won't be my last. I hadn't realized I was arriving during Carnival, but the hotel provided a ride to the parade. One of my top five experiences. When I get home, I'm going to book the same time next year.

We spent one night at the Villas resort. Our room looked over the bay, but the resort and rooms felt a bit dated, and the beach area was small and a few minutes' walk from our room. There are some good restaurants within walking distance. Still, there are significantly better places to stay on the island.

I loved being able to walk to so many bars and good restaurants, and the Harbour view was great. The location is really convenient. My only gripe was the parking lot's crazy speed bumps.

The balcony views were gorgeous, and the beach was beautiful. It's also easy to walk to nightlife and places to eat. The beds were so hard that I didn't really sleep well, though, and both the room and bathroom feel outdated. Service was okay, but the place felt very touristy, and the concierge's suggestions didn't really help us experience what the island has to offer. Hotel food and drinks were just okay too. For the price, I don't think I got the value, especially for villa living. It could have been much better.

The staff were helpful, and check-in was easy. I arrived early before the room was ready, so they held my bags while I went to get something to eat. The room was much bigger than I expected, with a separate toilet and shower area and a double vanity. The toilet did wobble, though. I had a comfortable king-size bed, a modern TV, and a great view from the balcony. There were two power outages during my three-day stay. The generators came on, but the AC didn't come back, so my last night's sleep wasn't pleasant.
