The spring water is so refreshing, and the room was clean and spacious. Everything felt beautiful and pure. It's a perfect spot for a ‘solocation’ to clear your head and regroup. I loved being there. A few things could be better: the road needs mending so smaller vehicles can get through, and a kiosk with basic essentials and airtime would be useful. A kitchen for guests who want a break from cooking would be nice too. Otherwise, all was good. And pack plenty of sunscreen, because it gets extremely hot up there.

We saw impalas, zebras, warthogs and wildebeest right outside our campsite, and made a fire each night. You can buy wood there, and they even washed our car! The campsite was such a tranquil, lovely place with all you need, including a hot shower and a kitchen with a fridge, gas hob and microwave. We got great communication before our stay, so we arrived well equipped. The Makungutsha Trail Summit trail loops from the camp and back. It was tough, but amazing. I fully recommend a visit if you're in the area!

The place was quiet, peaceful and incredibly beautiful. I felt right at home. We didn't see much wildlife this time, but that's a reason to come back. A must-go for nature lovers, and I'd return without hesitation. We camped at Wide Horizons Mountain Retreat on Saturday, 31 January, and had an incredible time. They told us about the road conditions ahead of time, which helped a lot. Our route was longer, but we were assured it was the best option. We got a gate code in advance, and access was smooth. The staff were polite, humble and genuinely helpful. They helped set up our tent, made a fire and were reachable when we needed directions while hiking. We walked the Owl Trail, Mountain Trail and Sculpture Trail, all beautiful and well worth doing. The ablution facilities were clean, and having a fridge, microwave, kettle and stove available was a nice touch.

We only stayed one night, and wished we'd had more time. The drive in was bumpy and rough, but the place was absolutely worth it. Remember to message them at the gate while you still have Wi-Fi, or have a SIM card so you can contact them. The mountain setting is stunning and surrounded by nature. We saw impala, zebra and wildebeest, and enjoyed watching the birds. There's a small dam and walking trails into the mountains and through the trees, though rain meant we couldn't try them. There's no restaurant, so bring everything you need. We stayed in aloe cottage, which was beautiful, with an amazing view from the room. It has a private grassy area, a braai, and a separate kitchen with a gas stove and oven. You can sit on the stoep and gaze out at the landscape. The staff were very friendly, and there's also a small swimming pool. A special place for anyone who loves nature and peace and quiet.

We loved the place, the mountain views from Ligwalagwala cottage, and the staff's care. On 30 December 2025, after we arrived in a very muddy car, we woke to find it clean. They also brought us firewood. Takhona was there for us throughout, and we never felt alone. On our 1 Jan 2026 picnic at Ligwalagwala, we enjoyed the view, and on a hike we saw zebras, springboks and a monkey. We were 10 family members at Wide Horizons from 29 December 2025 until 02 January 2026. Rain on check-in day made the gravel road to the retreat especially bad. I knew there was a gravel road but hadn't realized how rough it would be in the rain. There were about 7 very low bridges with no side barriers and water running over them, which was scary to cross. We drove through a village, then came to muddy sections where the car slid. Luckily, we had an SUV with all-terrain tyres, though the other car was a low sedan. Be prepared for the drive. The last low bridge before the gate was very steep. We'd return if they at least secured the bridges with barriers. Wi-Fi is only available at the main cottage, which was a problem because we rely heavily on it to communicate when we're in another country. My parents were in Aloe Cottage, furthest from the other two, and couldn't get in touch with us. The cleaner did an okay job, but when she washed the dishes she left them to dry, so we had to finish the job ourselves.
