Aonang 88 Hostel

We booked a double deluxe private room with a balcony, but the AC wasn't working properly when we arrived at night. The next day the power went out, and there was no backup to charge our phones or even shower and start the day. With no AC in the heat and humidity, it was miserable. When the power went out, there was no water in the room either. Despite having a private room, we were treated like hostel backpackers when it came to service and rules. We were told not to eat inside and not to wear slippers anywhere in the hotel, even in reception. There was no elevator, so we carried our bags up two floors, and staff offered no help with information. They were rude and incompetent. It's the worst hotel I've stayed in, including both hostels and hotels.

The facilities were clean and well maintained, the whole place was air-conditioned, and the staff smiled and made me feel welcome. Still, it felt overpriced given the gaps: there's no kitchen access, the lockers are too small for photography equipment backpacks, and the Wi-Fi in the bedroom and front porch wouldn't connect. These things should be improved. Backpacker lodging options here may be limited, so you might not have much choice.

The room looked good and had a balcony, and the location was good too. But I'd expect more from somewhere calling itself a hotel. The AC barely cooled the room, which made it impossible to sleep at night. There was hardly any water pressure in either the shower or sink, making it difficult to shower and brush my teeth.

A neat, well-kept hostel with friendly staff and a good feel to it. It's close to the beach and markets, with clean rooms and Wi-Fi. Breakfast is available too.
