Krungsri River Hotel

The staff were friendly, helpful and professional, and I’d recommend staying here if you’re visiting Ayutthaya. The hotel is spotless, comfortable and well maintained, with cool, relaxing indoor spaces. Rooms are a good size, with comfortable beds and good quality linens. It sits beside the river, so there are great views, lots of parking and a nice terrace with plenty of outdoor seating. There are places to eat, and breakfast is very good. I drove from Bangkok, and the trip took an hour and a half, including a fuel and restroom stop.

That bed was incredibly comfortable, the best I’ve come across in Thailand so far on this trip. The buffet wasn’t packed with my personal favorites, but there was enough for my travel companion and me to leave satisfied. We had a great river view, and a short rideshare got us to most major attractions. Staff in the hallways did a nice job of recognizing guests as they passed. The route in was a little awkward, with freeways, construction and bridges making the hotel less walkable than the map suggests. It’s no big deal by rideshare. WiFi got very spotty about halfway through our two-night stay. We also found three different insect species in the room, but this is the tropics, so I just pretended I was closer to nature than I really was. On the first morning, housekeeping made a huge racket in the hall from 7 am, slamming doors and cackling. Too early, from my point of view. Check-out was odd too. I handed over my key and waited and waited. After a few minutes I asked if everything was okay, and only then did someone tell me housekeeping had to check the room before they could finish check-out. While we waited for our rideshare, I had an empty soda can and asked the doorman where the trash can was. He pointed down some steps, but I couldn’t find it. I came back and asked if I could leave the can with him. He said in a huff that he’d show me. We went downstairs and into a room below the driveway, where the trash can was hidden behind tables and couldn’t be seen from the entrance. Not great customer service, in my view. The last couple of issues may have been down to a language barrier, but I think they could have been handled better, especially by the doorman.

The pool is lovely for sunset, but absolutely freezing, and the gym and breakfast were good too. This is a good quality, spotless hotel with functional rooms. I didn’t have a view. It feels more geared toward business than tourists. I couldn’t see anything to do right around the hotel, though I didn’t spend much time there and may have missed something. Recommended.

For the price, the rooms are good, the riverside restaurant is really good, and breakfast is amazing.
