PK Hostel

The staff were friendly, though not very motivated. We didn't get useful tips or much help with the tour, and the man's English wasn't good, which made communication difficult. We asked to rent a scooter but couldn't get one, even though there were three outside. There aren't other rental options in this area. The room was OK, but the air conditioner gave off a strange smell we really didn't like. The blanket was a fixed type without a changeable bedsheet, so I hope they replace it regularly. The pillow was too high and uncomfortable. The stay itself was good, clean, and cheap, but there are no bars or restaurants right here, just some about a 10-minute walk away. Don't try to see the historical park by bike in peak season. It's too hot, and you can't cover everything in a day. Traffic in Ayutthaya is annoying, with cars and buses everywhere and plenty of jams.

This was my favorite place during a month in Thailand. It's a family hostel with friendly, helpful staff, breakfast included, good air conditioning, and water. I came for two nights and ended up staying a whole week. I hope to return as soon as I'm back in Thailand.

The air conditioning was shut off every day from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. without any discussion. It rained on our first night, and water leaked badly into the room. I also felt the owner was dishonest: this schedule wasn't mentioned on the website, in the notice at the hotel, or when I checked in. Only when I asked why the AC was off did he say there was a schedule. Where was it? I also felt disrespected because whenever I passed through the lobby, the owner wasn't wearing clothes. I had booked three nights. On the first morning, the AC was switched off at 6 a.m. and I woke up hot, so I got up and went out. When I returned at noon, I wanted to rest, but after a while in the uncooled room it was unbearably hot. I went to the front desk, where the remote was kept, and asked the owner to turn it on. He was sitting shirtless in the front desk room and shouted in the local language. I said I had never been told, on the booking site, in the room notice, or at check-in and payment, that the AC would be off for 12 hours a day. He seemed impatient and kept yelling from inside with his legs crossed. He looked so angry that I became afraid and said I would call the police. The police arrived, and the argument about whether to turn on the AC took up the afternoon. I offered two options: a full refund or for the AC to be on while I was in the room. He accepted neither and told me to leave the hotel. After nearly three hours, I didn't want to waste any more time, so I had to accept a partial refund. I'm a traveler with ten years of hostel experience, and this was the first time anything like this had happened to me. Six officials came to mediate for almost three hours over the small request to use the AC for one hour. For me, the owner's character matters far more than the hotel's location or price: whether he is honest, respects guests, and runs the place with care. Sadly, I don't think this owner does.

The owner is very kind, and the place is clean and looks good. The shared room and women's room each have eight beds, and there are two small private rooms for men. Check-out is at 12:00 p.m., but you can leave your luggage at the hostel after checking out, go explore, then come back for it whenever you like. I loved this place and would stay here again if I return to Ayutthaya.
