Stockhome Hostel Ayutthaya

The room wasn’t very clean, and there was an awful smell coming from the shower drain, so that’s why I gave four stars. We stayed three nights in a double room. The communal areas were nice, the staff friendly, and the location is good, with an easy cycle ride to the ruins. In general, the hostel was OK.

We had a spacious, clean deluxe double room with a private bathroom, though the bed was quite hard and squeaky. The bathroom was a little grubby, but the toilet was clean. It’s a cheap, convenient base for a few nights visiting the Ayutthaya ruins. Staff were very helpful: they booked us a nice evening boat trip and let us leave our luggage after checkout.

The place next door, Sleepaholic, seemed much nicer when we stopped for coffee and breakfast, and the staff there were pleasant by comparison. Here, the staff seemed more focused on watching TV or using a computer upstairs than helping guests. The hostel felt really messy and unclean as a result. The design has been thought through, but it’s dirty and the bins were overflowing. We were also given a towel that was heavily soiled. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

The host was helpful and could understand English, and there’s a comfortable chillout area with couches and a place to work. Our first night was really noisy because of the bar or disco next door, and waking up was difficult since our room had no window. It’s very cheap, but we ended up wishing we’d paid a little more for somewhere nicer. If you want a lively, budget place and don’t plan to spend time in your room, this could suit you.
