3Howw Hostel at Sukhumvit 21

I booked the private deluxe room, so these comments are just about that experience. It was basic but clean, with the essentials. I had my own bathroom and toilet, so I can't speak to the shared facilities. For the price and location, it was better than I expected from a hostel. I hardly used the lobby common areas, though they seemed clean and quiet whenever I saw them, with people reading, working, or relaxing. I was there during Songkran and expected more of a party atmosphere, or at least the occasional loud guest. Instead, it was calm and relaxed, and quieter than I thought it'd be. Getting to the lobby means climbing one flight of stairs. After that there's an elevator to the other main floors, but the floors are split, so you might still need to go up a short flight to reach your room. The location is good, a short walk from both the subway and elevated train. There are several restaurants nearby, Terminal 21 Asoke is an easy walk, and there's a university further up the street.

It's alright. The location and bed were good, but there were a few frustrating things. Check-in before the usual time costs an extra 200 baht, even when the bed is ready. It felt greedy and unfriendly, like they were looking for reasons to charge more. The bathroom was very tight, and the shower only ran hot or warm, which isn't great in such hot weather. The phone outlet was loose, and I doubt they'll fix it. There's no locker big enough for a backpack, just tiny ones by the bed and outside that only fit small bags. Also, one guy snored loudly the whole time, making it impossible to sleep.

For what I paid, the stay was decent. The room was generally clean and came with bottled water, bathroom slippers that seemed reusable, a shower cap, and a hair dryer. Other amenities appeared to be sold separately at reception. The location was easy to find and convenient for getting around, close to Asoke BTS. Getting to the room involves quite a few stairs. I climbed a flight to reception, took the elevator to level 4, then had another flight to walk up. That could be difficult with heavy or large luggage. They also require a 1000 THB cash deposit at check-in, returned when you check out. There was a noticeable smoke smell when I first entered, despite the no smoking sign. Maybe a previous guest had smoked, and the smell hadn't been fully cleared. Housekeeping should take care of that. I also found the shower system a bit confusing at first.

The Wi-Fi was extremely slow and kept cutting out. The bathrooms had several problems too: the toilets smelled awful with no ventilation, and the shower room smelled bad as well. One shower drain was blocked, so water flooded the floor after a minute. Toilet seats weren't being cleaned or sanitized. The same stains stayed on one seat for three days, and no sanitizer was provided. On one day, three of the four toilet paper rolls were empty with no replacements. Communication at reception was difficult because the female staff member had limited English. If she didn't know a particular word or term, she'd say no without understanding the question.
