Mad COW Hostel Silom

We booked this place because it was the most affordable option around Silom, where my husband and I had two business meetings. The small patio out front was pleasant for sitting and watching people, and being just off the main road made it quieter than places right on Silom Rd. It was easy enough to find. Our private room was on the second floor. The bed was on the floor and there wasn’t much space around it, but it worked for our two-night stay. The room was clean and the AC got nice and cold. There were two shared bathrooms on our floor just outside the room, and we hardly ever had to wait. Other floors had more bathrooms if needed. They were clean, though the toilet, sink, and shower all share the same space, so the floors stayed wet. We arrived at 13:50, ten minutes before check-in. The friendly front desk woman checked us in promptly at 14:00, though she asked for a departure card and booking number, perhaps because we booked through an outside site. Staff weren’t always right there, so it’s best to arrive during check-in hours. The place has a budget-backpacker feel and sits behind a narrow bar that didn’t seem to be operating, so bar customers weren’t making noise. Lounge music played quite loudly during the day, then stopped before it got late. Overall, it was clean and fine for sleeping.

The staff were very nice, and the location is handy for the BTS, bars, and the park. It’s a low-cost hostel at 140 baht per bed, but it was noisy, not very clean, and the common area didn’t feel welcoming. I wouldn’t recommend it, though I wouldn’t call it somewhere to avoid either.

The staff were friendly, and the price and Silom location are good. It’s clean enough, but the place feels old and rather dark. There’s hot water, though towels aren’t included. The common area has fans instead of air conditioning, and some of the mattresses are uncomfortable.

We liked the central location, the price, and having enough space. It was clean enough and we had some freedom. The AC didn’t work properly, though, the place is quite old, and we waited a long time to check in. Hard to say whether I’d recommend it. We’ve spent nearly the same amount on better places in Bangkok.
