Praya Palazzo

I’ve lived in Bangkok all my life, and Praya Palazzo still impressed me. I came for one Friday night because I was working around Tha Phra Athit and didn’t want to deal with traffic on the way home. I was looking for a quiet stay by the Chao Phraya River, and this place came up beautifully in my search. The room isn’t big, but it’s comfortable, peaceful, and full of character. The building is charming and historic, close to Tha Phra Athit, and more reasonably priced than many other riverside hotels. I didn’t know much about its past when I booked, so learning about Ban Bang Yi Khan later, a riverside residence with stories of love, family, and refined Thai living, made the visit feel more meaningful. It’s now been gracefully reborn as Praya Palazzo. Service was what stood out most. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely caring, and the hospitality felt personal. The Thai food was excellent, and Rom Pho Room on the second floor was beautiful, elegant, and serene. The architecture and light make the whole property photogenic, especially if you appreciate heritage spaces. Getting there by boat is the easiest option since the hotel has its own pier. Parking is limited, near Bang Yi Khan Police Station, with space for only a few cars, so plan ahead if you’re driving. It’s worth visiting for a meal or just to take in the atmosphere, even if you’re not staying overnight. The hotel has also been listed in the Michelin Guide 2026, which doesn’t surprise me. Praya Palazzo offers a rare, quiet escape and a chance to experience Bangkok’s old spirit along the timeless Chao Phraya River. Highly recommended if you appreciate history, elegance, and sincere hospitality.

Everything was so good, from the beautiful building and garden to the pool, room, comfortable bed, breakfast, restaurant, and cocktails. The people working there were helpful, and we had a lovely time. Thanks to Rung for being so kind at breakfast in the morning and letting me pilot the boat.

We only came for the food, so I can’t comment on the rooms. The restaurant is great by any standard and deserves its Michelin Star. A special treat for a special occasion.

Update after a week: The hotel manager communicated well and handled things professionally. They were honest about the issue and quickly offered another arrangement so we’d be comfortable. Their willingness to help and positive attitude really made a difference, and I appreciated it. Original: I was very disappointed by how this was handled, especially for a hotel rated 4.5 on Google. I booked nearly five months ahead and arranged airport transfer about a month later, thinking everything was confirmed. Then the hotel cancelled my reservation three months before the stay, saying there had been an allotment error in its reservation system. Even with plenty of notice, a booking made that far ahead should have been secure. Blaming a system error points to poor organisation and unreliable management. It meant reworking my travel plans and looking for a new place when options were more limited and often more expensive. The whole thing was frustrating and really inconvenient. I wouldn’t book here again, and I hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else.
