I felt at ease in the all-girls room and, as a transgender guest, felt I belonged here. It’s a decent hostel overall, and the bed and restroom were okay. Bring your own lock if you want to use the lockers. The entrance is a small door leading upstairs, and the receptionist or owner is usually at the nail shop downstairs. It’s also very close to Khao San Road, which is handy for travelers.

The family running the place are lovely, and it stays surprisingly quiet even though it’s right across from Khao San. You’re close enough to walk straight into the action on Khao San Road, then stumble back without getting lost. A really nice stay if you want to be in the middle of things ✌️😎!

No lift, and the stairs are steep. There are no amenities or toiletries, not even bottled water 😭. It might work for a short nap while waiting for the Montanatip bus. The place is known for its social atmosphere and is a short walk from the main Khaosan strip, so it’s convenient but a bit away from the direct club noise. Wat Phra Kaew (Grand Palace) and Wat Pho are also within walking distance.

There’s no drinking water available, which was the main downside for me. Still, The House Hostel Bangkok was a good stay, and I’d recommend it to solo or budget travelers. It’s in a prime spot on Khaosan Road, with shops and food nearby, including 7-Eleven, Burger King, and plenty of bars. Vegetarian food options are very limited, though. A nearby bus stop has routes to major attractions and direct buses to Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang Airports. The staff are friendly and helpful, but speak only basic English, so there’s a small language barrier.

It’s cheap and might be fine for a single night, but I didn’t find it an enjoyable place. The reception is the nail salon downstairs, which rents out the rooms above it. The bed was clean, but there was dust, wall stains, dirt in the fan, and a socket had come away from the wall. The worst part was the shared bathrooms. They stayed dirty and smelly throughout my three days, enough to make me wonder if they were cleaned at all during that time. You can’t eat in the rooms, which I’m fine with, but the only place to eat is the entrance hallway. It’s just one meter wide with three chairs, and there’s no trash can, so taking food waste back to your room is basically the only option. This is about as basic as a place that can still be called a hostel.
