voco Bangkok Surawong by IHG

The room was clean and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Restaurant staff were friendly and knew their jobs, which made eating there more enjoyable. Voco Bangkok Surawong has a beautiful, distinctive, trendy look. I liked the stylish, welcoming atmosphere as soon as I walked in. The staff were attentive and warm, especially Khun Knot, the Guest Experience Manager, who was kind and helpful. As an IHG member, I felt genuinely looked after. This was my first stay, and I was impressed. I’d gladly return and recommend it to anyone visiting Bangkok.

Breakfast was a lovely start to the morning, thanks to a really attentive team. Get, our waiter, made sure everything was right, while Charon, Poon, and Iris were kind and helpful throughout. Gam, the hostess, welcomed us with such friendliness and a warm smile that her energy set the tone for the whole meal. She’s the sort of person who makes you want to come back. It’s the people who can make a stay, and this team made our morning special. Thanks for the great service!

The staff were pleasant, the location was great, the price was good, and everything felt wonderfully new. The room was spacious, beautiful, and practical, with an espresso maker, fridge, dreamy bed, blackout curtains, and a shower that gave us no trouble. The water was wonderfully hot, and the toilet had a bidet. The pool was one of the best we had on the trip: enormous, spectacular, and just a little warm, with beautiful sun loungers. It gets sun from 11am to 3pm. Breakfast beat what we’ve had at pricier five star hotels, with excellent quality and tasty local dishes each day. The gym was great too, with brand new elliptical machines, plenty of free weights, and lots of other equipment. The restaurant food was excellent as well. Don’t hesitate to book.

The first impression was nice: check-in went smoothly, and they welcomed us with drinks and mango sticky cookies, a cute touch, though the cookies were too sweet for me. The staff were friendly and helpful. I stayed four days, and left with mixed feelings. It felt like VOCO Bangkok was aiming for five stars without delivering the basics consistently. I liked the bright, open, colorful room, the wooden floor, firm but comfortable bed, creative minibar items, and the quiet pool-facing view. But the windows were surprisingly dirty for a hotel that had opened just two months earlier. The shower drain was clogged, an issue several other reviewers had mentioned. Water leaked from the pipe under the sink. Housekeeping was mediocre: the floor was still dirty and full of hair, one bathrobe was taken away and not replaced, and tea and coffee were missed two days in a row. Breakfast was enjoyable, with lots of choices, fresh sourdough and mostly fresh bread, and plenty of fruit. They even had snake fruits, longans, and jack fruits, which I don’t often see at hotel breakfasts. The indoor AC was much too strong, and I overheard other people complaining about it too. The pool is beautifully designed, and I loved the shaded double sunbed, but construction right beside it was noisy and spoiled the peaceful feel. The neighborhood was loud too, beside a busy road and full of bars and nightclubs. That may suit you if that’s what you’re here for. It wasn’t a terrible stay, and I can see potential, but there’s plenty to improve, hence the three stars.
