Nick may not live at the hostel, but he organizes activities guests can join. I went with him on a trail walk and run up the local mountain, and he was great company and a terrific guide. It was a lovely way to see another side of Chiang Mai. The best part was stopping near the top at a local villager’s farm cafe for strawberries and coffee, with spectacular views. My lack of fitness caught up with me and I hobbled around for a week afterward! I’d definitely stay at counting sheep hostel again and recommend it. We really enjoyed the place: clean, simple, cozy, and relaxed. Our double room wasn’t big, but it was thoughtfully laid out with plenty of luggage storage and everything we needed. Thanks!

We had a private room and really liked it, though I can’t say much about the shared dorms. The place is very clean, with friendly hosts and pleasant lounge areas both indoors and out. Breakfast is simple but available, and there’s a cute cafe attached. The owners are happy to help arrange tours or excursions. It’s also an easy walk to the heart of Phuket.

The staff were the best, so friendly, helpful, and accommodating. They all spoke English very well, too. I was so glad I stayed here. The common area made it easy to hang out and meet people, and this was the best of the four places I stayed in Thailand.

Nicholas, the owner, is really nice, and the common spaces make it easy to socialize with other travelers. My private room was clean and comfortable, with a nice bathroom. I’d absolutely recommend this low-key hostel in Chiang Mai.
