De Chai the Deco Chiang Mai

I can’t recommend this place because of the smell. Family room 315 had a pungent odor in the parents’ double bedroom beside the bathroom, and in the bathroom too. None of the windows open, so there’s no way to air it out; air conditioning was the only option. It eased after the AC ran for a few hours, but never went away during our four nights. There were air fresheners in both the bathroom and bedroom, so management clearly knew about the issue, and they only added to the mix of smells. The shower tiling looked poorly done, with gaps that let water seep into them. The glass door had mold on the inside sealant and didn’t keep water from leaking into the bathroom and under the cabinet. I believe there’s rot behind the shower and cabinet wall, which could be a health hazard for sensitive guests. This isn’t fit for human accommodation. Otherwise, the facilities were okay. The pool was a little small and had limited shade. Breakfast was 7/10, with a good egg station and nice pancakes and waffles. I also saw other people had left feedback here about the smell.

The location made it easy to explore Chiang Mai, with the Old City, markets, cafés and sights all within walking distance. It was still peaceful when we wanted to relax. Our room was roomy and comfortable, which we really appreciated after being out all day. The hotel stayed spotless, and housekeeping was consistently good. Breakfast had fresh choices and enough variety to get the day started. I’d happily stay at De Chai Deco Hotel again.

The pool was a real plus, and the staff were friendly and ready to help. We were staying in an area we don’t usually choose, but getting around was still convenient. Our room was huge, with a lovely bathroom and a very comfortable bed. We also ordered room service on our first night and really enjoyed it. I’d recommend De Chai Deco.

The omelette station was very good, and it’s an easy walk to all the action. The layout of the two-bedroom premier suite felt strange, almost like a rabbit warren. Hot water came and went, so showering around 11pm worked best when fewer people in the building were using it. Sleep was difficult too, since the walls were thin and we could hear people talking and stomping around on the floors above and below.
