Chiang Mai was beautiful, but this place didn’t meet my standards. The only things I liked were the AC and the cheap laundry service. My clothes didn’t smell fresh afterward, though, and seemed to have been washed with unscented detergent and dryer sheets. The beds were rock hard, the towels were old and well used, and I found a huge, fast-running beetle in the bathroom. The bathroom flooded every time I showered, and they charge you for flushing toilet paper. The old windows let in every bit of street noise. As soon as I checked in, the woman at the front desk tried to sell me tour packages. The White Temple, Golden Triangle, northernmost point of Thailand, and Long Neck Tribe tour was awful. Look those places up yourself or rent a vehicle and drive with GPS, which will probably save time and money. It all felt like a tourist trap, and being stuck in a van with a group for over six hours was hell. The Long Neck Tribe stop only had Asian squat toilets and no toilet paper, and the whole trip was a waste of my time and money. The front desk woman charged me 350 bhat for her son to take me to the airport, even though it was less than a 10-minute trip. Take a flat-rate tuk tuk instead. If the hotel arranges a transfer, use the airport phones to contact them, or they may claim the driver waited for hours and left. I emailed my itinerary, but it didn’t go through. I also asked the front desk woman to tell the drivers not to come until I contacted her, but she didn’t listen, and I had to spend more on transportation. Avoid this place if you can, unless you want bed springs poking into you all over.
