Haikin Ryokan

The place needs updating badly. My room smelled moldy, the bathtub was in terrible condition, and housekeeping didn't clean during the day, so I had to go to the front desk for a couple of waters after running out. The bathing area and onsen smelled off, with brownish scum around the edges that clearly needed cleaning. The sauna barely got hot because about half its heating elements were broken, and the controller digits were impossible to read. One pool wasn't in use at all. It was marked under construction, but it was the same when I visited two years ago. Several shower areas were moldy or damaged and had been left that way. Breakfast was a disaster: a small piece of bony, fishy salmon, two Thai-style hotdogs, cheap salad with loads of dressing, and miso soup. I could barely eat it. I love onsens and hope they take this feedback seriously, because the place could be much better.

I stayed three nights in a suite with an amazing 🛁, and the onsen was great. The breakfast options could be better, though that's a matter of personal taste. Great value for money overall.

The room was tiny, with nowhere to put clothes, no wardrobe or shelves, and the bathroom sink had a laughably small piece of soap. We saw a dog living at the property, wandering around and barking at people. There were also a dozen birds in a small cage, and it looked like they were growing plants on the grounds. Strange and sad. Several things weren't as advertised or explained. They say every room has a tub, but on arrival we were told family rooms don't. The Japanese restaurant was listed as open from 11 am to 9 pm, but they told us it was closed for all of May, even though we stayed on the 9th and 10th. They also never said the Onsen, which is really a public bath, only opened from 6 pm to 11 pm. When we used it, they forgot to give us the small towels and only provided large ones. It gave the impression the place doesn't get many customers.

Treat everyone with kindness and respect. We sent a photographer to take a picture in front of your hotel so we could give our guests directions for booking there. You were rude, racist, and disrespectful to him because of his race. We're disgusted by how you treated him. You run a business but showed no hospitality. An unwelcoming and disrespectful host 🤮🤢
