Rumpai Loft Habitat

A hidden gem in a really nice local area. The owner is super friendly, and you can wander around the accommodation or relax at their cafe/bar on the first floor, where they also serve Thai craft beers. I'd recommend it for a group or for travelling solo.

The room is spacious, and the place is friendly, with a good cafe and bar. Since it's a bit away from the city and the tall buildings, it's very quiet and you get a great view of Doi Suthep hill. The floor can be a little slippery if you're wearing socks.

The place itself really suited my taste. It's brand new, well kept, clean and tidy, and the interior was exactly what I like. I gave it three stars because, for our purposes, it was too far from the city. Without a car or scooter you're relying on taxis, around 150-200Baht, and many drivers had trouble finding it. Having your own chauffeur helped, but they kept trying to sell us trips to places that weren't worth seeing. Keep resisting. The owner is a friendly young thai who made his dream a reality with this place. I felt there was room to improve the hospitality. For a new property outside the usual tourist areas, I would have liked the host to be more involved, especially with a shuttle service and information about local sights and the neighborhood. We worked most things out ourselves. We stayed four days. If you're in Chiang Mai longer, this could be a good place to stay. There's a nice monastery literally around the corner if you're looking for meditation opportunities. If you want to be closer to the city, choose somewhere else.

We had no plans, but luckily the manager, the young owner's father, was there. He was really nice and friendly, and arranged everything we wanted to experience. Otherwise, our stay was well organized. I recommend staying here. If you've rented a scooter, it's really convenient for getting around the Ban Kang Wat area. Give it a try.
