Akha River House

For the price, it was okay. The place is by the river and near the city center. Our room was big enough and fine, and the service was okay too. We just didn’t get the free bikes mentioned in the booking information.

The room had a lovely river view and was a good size, clean, and nicely decorated. You can walk into the town centre from here. It’s beside a busy main road, but with the doors closed we could barely hear it. Sitting by the river, though, came with a lot of traffic noise. We were disappointed by how damp the room was. After three nights our belongings felt damp, and the mouldy smell was terrible. That alone means we wouldn’t recommend staying here. Staff weren’t available.

For $10 a night, the price is good, and the rooms look cool. The night market is about a 20 minute walk away. The place is run down in spots, or some things aren’t there at all. The pool table was covered and didn’t seem to get used, and the bar was the same. The beds are rock hard. If you’re happy with the price and location and don’t expect the Hilton, you’ll be pleased.

For 250 baht, a king bed is great value. The rooms are spacious and very clean, with no dust, though they are a bit aged. Breakfast was what I expected for 50 baht: toast, jam, butter, and coffee, tea, or Ovaltine. After the recent run of bad reviews, it was better than I expected. I took off one star because the mattress was the hardest and least comfortable of my trip.
