Phu Pha Nam Resort & Spa

The property is massive and the rooms are well appointed. The in-house restaurant, though, was painfully slow. We were the only ones eating there, yet it took an hour to get our food. Even worse, they took 25 minutes to tell us that an item we'd ordered wasn't available, lol. I'd probably eat outside the resort.

I only went to check out the location, pool, fitness center, and a room with stunning views, rather than staying overnight. It's an older hotel, but feels very luxurious, with lots of quality details. Nature, water, and animals surround the property. It looks like it would be a really nice place to stay.

The hotel had some uniquely charming items that added to the experience, and the service was exceptional. The view was stunning too. I had a fantastic stay and highly recommend it!

The main building is a rustic country lodge, with teakwood floors, stone walls, and timber rafters. I'd choose a room there. They're spacious and comfortable, though you shouldn't expect much luxury out in the countryside. The showers have warm water, for example, but the sinks don't. Free WiFi is available throughout, and this feels like a place to relax, read, or go for nature walks. Phuphanam Resort sits among the rolling hills of the Phu Rua district in Loei, about an hour and a half by car from Loei airport. Its roughly 75 rooms are spread across three low-rise buildings: the original stone and wooden one, plus two more modern additions. The grounds are extensive and forested, with working orange orchards, a large orchid nursery, and some Thai farm animals. There's also a big aviary with parrots, peacocks, and a pair of rare Great Hornbills. The unheated pool, indoor and outdoor massage areas, and gym are clean and in good repair. The restaurant focuses on Thai food, with a few basic western entrees. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Nearby activities include national parks and cultural villages of the hill people who live in the area. Flowers and fruit are widely grown in Loei, so depending on the season you might find strawberries, avocados, or macadamia nuts. Chateau de Loei, one of Thailand's largest wineries, is nearby too.
