Chiang Mai Unique Mud Houses

The rooms were spacious and had a vintage feel, and the hotel was okay, though it wasn’t memorable enough for me to take pictures. It’s run by what I’d guess are only two people, and the service felt confusing and poor. The pools were dirty, and with so few guests, being out in the middle of nowhere felt a bit scary. It’s far from the main city, with no shops or restaurants nearby, and you might wait an hour for an app taxi if you’re lucky. I’d suggest it for a peaceful nature getaway away from the city, but not if you want to explore Chiang Mai.

The biggest problem was the staff. Nobody speaks English, and they seemed to spend the day making noise around guests. A woman sweeping listened to a podcast on speakerphone. When I asked her to turn it off so I could focus on work, she demanded I go with her to the manager, then stopped sweeping. The manager shook her head and walked away. Some staff brought their noisy children or played annoying cartoons on tablets. They didn’t seem to understand that people booking this far outside the city want peace and quiet, and there was no way to explain it to them. No taxi comes up here, so you need your own transportation. It’s also really expensive compared with other hotels in the area. The place could be beautiful and the hotel nice, but the nearby street is noisy. The rooms also can’t be made fully dark, so I had to sleep with a mask. And the water from the tap smells of rotten eggs.

The owner made us stay in a dirty room where the bathroom didn’t work, and the door couldn’t be opened from inside, so we were locked in. She couldn’t speak English and didn’t understand it either. We booked a single bed through Agoda, but she said it was a twin bed. There were lots of stains on the bed, pillowcase and bathrobe, so bring your own if you stay here.

The room wasn’t clean, and the customer service was really bad. Not worth spending vacation time here.
