The Nine Guesthouse

The kind, lovely staff are the reason this got two stars instead of one. The location is good, the price decent, and the little courtyard and garden are lovely. But the room is a complete mystery, like X-Files stuff. None of it makes sense. There’s a strange, useless little space by the entrance, and the power sockets are so high up that charging with a normal-length cable is annoying. The shower mount can’t be adjusted and points forward, so the water hits you straight in the face instead of coming down from above. The bathroom sink is ridiculously tiny, with no room for toothpaste, while there’s a huge unused space next to it. There’s no soap at the micro-sink, so you have to step into the shower just to wash your hands. The towel bar keeps falling because it’s too short to fit properly between its wall mounts. The bathroom door is awkward too, it’s just short of fitting properly, and you can’t get into the shower while it’s open. There’s no real hotel service either. They didn’t change towels or tidy the bed, just left bottles of water and coffee at the door. The walls are paper thin, so barking dogs or drunk tourists will wake you at night.

We had dinner at The Nine Restaurant tonight. The service was very good, and they spoke very good English. Every dish was fresh and delicious, and you can ask for your preferred spice level. It’s a top-quality Thai sit-down restaurant, highly recommended!

We had the garden terrace, and it was great value. The bathrooms were decent and Western-style. Well above its ranking, and I’d definitely stay here again.

The restaurant is nice, and the staff are lovely. My passionfruit smoothie was amazing. The chicken with cashew nuts was less successful: the chicken was hard and chewy, though a few pieces were good. It wasn’t very flavorful, and adding chili only helped a little.
