VN Guesthouse Kanchanaburi

It was a very cheap place to stay, and we enjoyed our time there. The restaurant was really nice, with a River Kwai view, good prices, and delicious food. We booked by email but were given different rooms from the ones we’d expected. They were okay, with an air-conditioning upgrade, though the view and bed size weren’t what we had in mind. The bathroom floor stayed wet because the water couldn’t drain through the floor drain as it was built. They gave us a broom as the solution.

We stayed two nights at River Kwai cottage next door, but had breakfast at the VN guesthouse both mornings since the cottage doesn’t serve it. Luckily, VN guesthouse is only 10 m away and turned out to be a very good breakfast spot. The dining area looks out over the river, and there’s a wide choice of breakfasts and drinks. The staff were friendly and efficient. I especially liked the muesli and fruit balls.

We weren’t guests, just dropped in for breakfast, but came back several nights in a row. The cheese and tomato omelet was excellent, hot, filling, and a good size. Bee was a warm, smiling, genuine hostess, and the quiet river view made the experience even better. I’d definitely recommend the food and atmosphere.

A good option for budget travelers, with very friendly, helpful staff. The restaurant view at night was amazing. During one evening visit to the restaurant, though, we had to cut our time short because marijuana smoke was coming from another accommodation. The restaurant doesn’t allow drugs on the premises.
