Blue Palm Residence Kata

The price is the main reason my review is so harsh. We paid 227€ a night, which felt outrageous for what we got. Just before this, we spent five days on Koh Racha in a beautiful resort with sea views and large, comfortable rooms for around 140€ a night. The comparison is brutal. For this room, I’d say 100€ a night at most in high season. At 8,300 THB a night, I expected a top-level experience, not a mediocre resort in an unremarkable part of Kata. The building looks cheap from outside, almost like somewhere you’d skip. Inside, it improves a little and feels more acceptable. The pool area is nice, but I wouldn’t want a room right beside it because swimmers feel like they’re inside your room, with no privacy. My parents had a pleasant first-floor room with a little living area, terrace and decent bathroom. Our family room was very different. The outdoor patio was nice, and the double bedroom was fine, with a glass wall facing outside. But the second bedroom had no window and sat between the main bedroom and toilet. It barely deserves to be called a bedroom. The interior felt extremely cheap and basic for the price. The bathroom was huge but bare and depressing. We were also told not to flush toilet paper. I’ve only come across that in very cheap places or on remote islands without proper sewage. This is Phuket, so I don’t see an excuse for it. Having to put used paper in a bin beside the toilet is disgusting. Worse, during our two nights there, the room wasn’t cleaned at all, and those bins should be emptied regularly. A bit disappointing. The hotel isn’t terrible, but the room and price made for a poor experience.

The hotel is in a quiet spot, with good cafes and a 7/11 nearby. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the sea, which didn’t bother us. We liked the clean, cool pool, and the cleaning was done well. The girl at reception told us about the night market, and going there a couple of times was unforgettable. It was mostly locals, and we bought fresh fruit, seafood skewers, fried chicken and fish. At first the family room felt odd because one room sits between the toilet and another room, but we got used to it. We leave tomorrow, and I’d happily stay another week. Honestly, I adore Thailand and the Thai people, so I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel and Thailand in general ♥️

The junior suite was huge, and the pool was beautiful and clean. The receptionists were very kind, and housekeeping was amazing. This residence is not too far from kata beach.

Our first night went well, though there was no hot water in either the tap or shower. The second night, the air conditioning stopped cooling. I can’t sleep when it’s too hot, and we got no sleep at all. We even turned the bed around to get closer to the unit, but the air still wasn’t cool. I wanted to talk to someone on staff because this really spoiled our stay, but nobody was around. As backpackers who’ve been travelling for a while, we’ve found hotels in Thailand welcoming and hospitable. This place didn’t meet that standard. When we arrived, nobody greeted us or helped with the luggage. We were just taken to the room in silence and handed a key.
