A calm, quiet place with nice staff, clean rooms, a pleasant area and a nice pool. With a bike or bicycle, you can get to the beach in a few minutes.

Amy and Num Nim were the highlight: friendly, efficient and helpful. The pool is a bonus and child-friendly, and there are two nice restaurants next door. It's good value, so we came back for a second stopover on our holiday and recommend it. Irak Resort is a colourful, friendly place in Klong Wan, a small beachside village just outside Prachuap Khiri Khan. The rooms are individual cottage-style units with comfortable beds. There's a lot of furniture, which pushes the bed into a corner. Getting out means climbing down at the foot of the bed or over your partner, which may be more fun. The bathroom layout is awkward too, since you have to pass through the shower recess to reach the toilet and washbasin.

A basic place, good enough for a stopover. We parked the car right outside our room and caught the sunrise from the nice roof terrace. There's a market nearby, where we found a good breakfast.

The bed is so old I could feel the springs, and it dips into a hole in the middle. All the plugs are by the door, with no table nearby to charge a phone. It's all about the looks, but when you're getting out of bed just to unplug the TV and turn it off, you start wondering if you made the right choice.
