The room was spacious, with lots of room to spread out our belongings, which made for a comfortable stay. Kooncharaburi Resort is a great choice for a peaceful vacation. It’s a bit far from the main street in Koh Chang, but I think the excellent service makes it worth staying. We couldn’t have the hotel’s buffet breakfast, so the auntie kindly packed a meal for us to take on the boat. It was tasty and awesome! There’s also a private bar inside the resort, though we didn’t get to try it yet.

The sea view from our premium villa was stunning, and the room was spotless, though the decor felt a bit dated, especially in the bathroom. The pool area was pleasant, but without cushions on the sunbeds it wasn’t comfortable to spend time there. The resort felt almost deserted. There was nobody at the bar or restaurant, day or night, and parts of it looked neglected. The beach in front was dirty, and some villas had been left to decay, with holes in their roofs. That gave the quiet place an eerie feel. Getting around didn’t work for us. This is a very isolated spot, with little nearby and few restaurants or bars open after 8pm. The island road is cut off at the bottom, so reaching the other side means driving all the way around the north. There’s nothing within walking distance, so you really need your own transport. We booked through the hotel and paid far too much because of their large markup. If you do stay, we thought the restaurant and sunset at long beach were the best things we found on this side. The resort could be beautiful with some care, but I’d choose somewhere on the other side of the island, anywhere from the south up.

The room was decent, but the air conditioning barely worked and black, dirty water came from the taps. I’d booked a private trip and was put on a group tour instead; they said there weren’t enough boats or staff. The staff were unhelpful, and some seemed irritated and spoke rudely to customers. For the price, it was a very disappointing stay.

The property has a great location and a good layout. I liked it when it was around half full, but on my second visit occupancy was under 10%, and the difference was obvious. The food was poor, the pools were closed, and there was hardly any staff. They didn’t seem interested in helping guests, and the promoters aren’t maintaining the place well. I wouldn’t recommend booking it now.
