I spent four nights at HDGH in December and felt right at ease. My simple first-floor outside room was clean and had A/C. Birds came to sit on the windowsill in the mornings, sometimes seeming to talk to me. Chris and Cherry were polite, listened to what I needed, and gave useful tips when I asked. Chris even explains things like room cleaning before you get the keys, so I don’t understand the bad reviews. You can ask to have the room cleaned daily, though I didn’t need that for a short stay. There’s no fridge in the room, but guests can use the big one downstairs by the stairs. They rent motorcycles too, so it all worked out well. If I return to Koh Kood, I’ll stay here again. More than 10,000 km from Italy, Chris and his lovely wife Cherry still made me feel at home. Cherry is sweet and cute, and her cooking is amazing. She brightened every morning and sent me off in a good mood for the day’s adventures. Everyone on staff was friendly and helped with all my requests. The diving school is close by, as are shops, restaurants, and laundry, and the beach with its bungalow bar and pier is three minutes away.

For island prices, this is very good budget accommodation. The beach, restaurants, dive shop, and more are close by. The owners are really sweet and help with whatever you need, including transport. He checks that bookings are right and follows up when you leave. The shower water sometimes smells for a few seconds when first turned on. I think it may have to do with water shortages and the island’s water supply.

The rooms were clean, the restaurant food was pretty good, and the location worked well, with a diving center right next door. It’s one of the cheapest options on the island. But the rooms felt hot and dark even with the AC on, and the mattress was extremely uncomfortable. There was no option for two single beds, either. You can hear your neighbors, even snoring, since the rooms aren't soundproofed. The shower pressure was so low that washing my hair was a struggle. There’s no room fridge, and they only clean the rooms if you ask.
