Alama Sea Village Resort

We paid nearly €200 a night and ended up leaving because of health concerns, with extra costs for another hotel and no refund so far. We're still disputing the charges with the hotel and Booking.com. After we noticed several bites overnight, we found what appeared to be a bed bug infestation. The staff showed no empathy or respect, even after seeing the mattress themselves, and laughed when we reported it. Their only suggestion was to clean the room. We also learned during the discussion that staff had photographed our belongings while cleaning on earlier days, which felt like a serious invasion of privacy. The other problems added up: the rooms were dirty, towels were often stained and weren't changed daily. I had to ask three times for fresh ones. The bathroom was barely a bathroom, just two dirty plastic curtains for separation. Breakfast was very mediocre, with hardly any sweet choices and factory-made croissants. Nothing was included for free, even bikes and scooters. Local staff didn't speak English, so issues had to go through WhatsApp with the owner in Bangkok, whose English was also very poor. For us, it was terrible value. I would urge people to avoid this place because we felt our health and privacy were at risk.

The natural setting was beautiful, and waking up to the sounds of nature was an amazing way to start the day. We felt welcome right away, and someone even helped carry our luggage to the rooms. The owner was friendly and easygoing, which made the stay feel relaxed. After I checked out, I realized I'd left something behind. They kindly mailed it to me, which meant a lot. We had a wonderful stay, and I'd absolutely recommend this place.

The staff were warm and helpful, and arranging a bike through them was simple, at 250 baht per day. We liked the quiet atmosphere in Kantiang Bay as a couple, and highly recommend the area. Our Garden View Suite was cozy, though the mattress is on the floor, which might be awkward for anyone who has trouble getting up. It wasn't a problem for us. The room was cleaned each day, with water and toilet paper provided. We could also use umbrellas, a flashlight, beach towels, and a beach bag. There was a hammock under the room where we watched squirrels in the trees, although there wasn't much of a view from there. The hotel is on a hill, so there are lots of stairs, including up to breakfast and the pool. The view of Kantiang Bay from up there is lovely, but the morning sun shines right in your face. Breakfast was decent and filling, though nothing special. We were woken by the morning prayers, which can be loud but don't go on long. I believe this is fairly common across the island, since it's a Muslim island.

Our first night brought bed bug concerns, but the hotel offered us another room and washed my clothes at no charge. We checked the new room and it was fine. The rooms are spacious, the pool is great, the location is good, and both the fans and deck were good. The view from my bungalow, number 015 at the very top, was lovely at night. Breakfast was awful, though there are plenty of other places just down the street. The hotel doesn't serve alcohol because it's Muslim. The drains in the room smelled, and on two very windy nights the bungalow shook enough to make it hard to sleep. The other nights were fine.
