The Mak Trat

Artie made a big difference to our stay. He showed us how to ride a scooter, helped us rent a buggy, and when I left something behind on the island, he kindly arranged to get it to Koh Chang that same day. The reception staff were so helpful and really made everything special. We loved the room too, and had a wonderful stay. Khop khun kha! 10/10

We had room 402 upstairs, and the view was wonderful even though it wasn’t right by the beach. The hotel sits in lovely surroundings, and the staff were nice and quick to respond. The beach could be cleaner and better looked after. We wouldn’t recommend dinner at the restaurants, as service took too long and the food quality was poor.

I picked the Sea Side Villa and was glad I did. The place feels close to nature, with panoramic views at both sunrise and sunset. It’s a calm, private spot that works well for a relaxing holiday. The restaurant is quite okay, with Thai, Isan, and Western options. You can rent a motorcycle from the staff for 300.-/24 hours, or an E-Golf car for 1,000.- to 1,300.- if you can’t ride. The hotel is far from the main hangout street on the left side of the island, but if that’s fine with you, I’d say it’s the best hotel in Koh Mak. A good place to get away from the chaos of everyday life.

The room was clean, spacious, and impressive, and the shower was very good. Beyond that, the experience didn’t feel worth the high price. Laundry, motorbike rental, and food all cost more here, and the hotel is far from the center. The beach on this side of the island gets extremely windy this season, so it’s hard to enjoy the sea, though you can do that on the other side. Breakfast was average. It feels like the place has a lot of potential, but the young staff and service culture didn’t measure up to other places we stayed.
