Sichang Shine Khao Resort

This is a comfortable base for resting between outings around the island. It isn't the sort of place that provides washcloths, cotton swabs, or a hairdryer, so bring your own. Larger rooms have balconies facing the golden Buddha. Hot water and coffee are on the first floor, and quiet paved paths behind the property lead to viewpoints. Turn right, follow the sidewalk, then it turns left across the mountain.

The staff were friendly and quick to help while we stayed in the two-bedroom bungalow, which had one toilet. Still, I probably wouldn't book it again. We paid over 4,000 baht for two nights, and I think I could find somewhere nicer for a better price. The bungalow was old, and some chairs were already damaged. One bedroom's air conditioner wasn't working when we arrived, and neither was the bathroom heater. Staff called maintenance after we told them, and responded quickly, but it would've been better if everything had been checked before check-in. For what we paid, we expected some facilities, like the charcoal grill, to be included. We were told using it would cost around 300 baht, though I don't remember the exact amount. We decided against it because the old, dirty grill didn't seem worth the extra charge. 🤭

The resort is old, but the service was very good. We stayed in a large bungalow with three bedrooms, a bathroom, and a living room, and the grounds around it were nice. It's near a spot where you can watch the sunset. Recommended!

We paid 1,440 baht in July '18 for two basic double rooms, each with a private bathroom and air conditioning. This is a quiet, park-like resort tucked away near the lovely views and trails at Chong Khao Khat, as well as the mountain shrine complex to the north. It suits budget travellers who expect to spend most of their time outside and arrive on scooters, with very convenient parking. There's no bar or restaurant on site, though the nearest bar is only 50 m away. That helps keep things quiet. We found some harmless insects in the bathroom, and there was no hot water in the showers, but after a hot day neither was much of a problem. The owner let us extend checkout by three hours so we could shower after our last beach visit before catching the ferry home.
