Thiw Son Beach Resort

The family who owns the resort made us feel so welcome, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing, with a great selection of fresh, delicious food. The setting is calm and incredibly beautiful, right by the beach, with an outstanding sunrise view. The bungalows have outdoor showers that are a dream, and the views are great. It’s the most beautiful place I’ve stayed.

A quiet place to unwind, and renting a scooter makes it easy to explore the beautiful island. The outdoor showers were amazing, and the rooms had AC. The first pool was working, though the second one wasn’t, and they were trying to get it fixed. Breakfast was about what I expected for an included breakfast in Thailand.

We stayed four nights and really enjoyed ourselves, mostly thanks to the island, especially its fantastic, quiet northern part. The beachfront villa was inexpensive for this part of Thailand, and it’s hard to beat the value if you can live with a few inconveniences. It was the least expensive beachfront villa we could find in this area. Our room was spacious and clean, right by the beach, with a special view across the water to the islands. Swimming wasn’t great, though. The beach is more like a man-made dock, with some sand mixed into grassy areas. Breakfast was just okay, but better than breakfasts at other resorts we’ve stayed at. There were plenty of Thai dishes that Mindy thought were pretty good, while Western options were limited to an omelette station and some croissants. The beach chairs were wet and covered in ants every morning, so we gave up on reading under the palms and used our villa porch instead. Wi-Fi was unreliable at times. Bigger problems need renovation: the pool deck is run-down, with holes and termite-rotted wood that seemed unsafe, especially on the stairs. The bathroom felt tired and dated, and its fixtures needed repair. There’s no room service. Lunch and dinner are better elsewhere, and we liked Blue Tamarind. We’re pointing out the problems so management knows where to focus, because the place has lots of potential.

The restaurant and bar staff were lovely and sorted out everything for us, including motorbike hire, taxis, and other bookings. We enjoyed a relaxing five days at Thiwson Beach Resort, and highly recommend it. Our clean, comfortable beachfront room gave us lots of room to spread out. The food was nice, though there are several other places to eat nearby, including The Blue Tamarind and The Funky Monkey. At high tide you can swim at the beach, and there’s also a pool.
