That beach view was amazing, and the room itself was really cool, with the bedroom up in a loft and the bathroom outside. But it sits right on the party beach, so the noise carries on until the early hours. I’d happily stay again for the full moon party, just don’t expect somewhere you can relax.

Haad Rin is right outside, with plenty of food and shops nearby, and the boat taxis to Haad Yuan/Eden/Guys Bar/Sanctuary leave just outside. MIR Bar is a minute away, and it’s the only bar on this side of the island playing the good non-mainstream electronic music, in my opinion. It’s an easy spot for getting around the island. The nights can be noisy, but daytime is quiet, which suits me since that’s when I usually sleep. After lots of trips to Koh Phangan and stays in all sorts of places, L. J. Guesthouse is still my favorite place to stay in Haad Rin. The rooms are cozy and thoughtfully laid out. Most recently, I had one where the bathroom opens toward the ocean. The staff are lovely and really accommodating. JB welcomed me warmly and invited me to a home-cooked dinner with his family. That’s my favorite experience from all my trips to Thailand. JB and the crew are simply the best.
