I stayed in the 18-bed girls’ dorm, and it somehow didn’t feel crowded. People were thoughtful and respectful, and the bar was a cozy place where there was nearly always someone to chat with. I had some lovely conversations and met amazing people. The whole resort is even prettier in person than in the photos. I felt welcome as soon as I arrived, and the atmosphere is relaxed and social. The pool was clean, the bathrooms and showers were well looked after, everything worked, and the food was delicious. There’s a gym too. I wish I could have stayed longer, and I’ll definitely come back. Leaving grateful, and highly recommend.

The best part of Shiralee for me was the people and the feeling of the place. I met good people and loved the hospitality. I’ve stayed in hotels around the world, and I’d describe this as an experience, not just somewhere to sleep. It’s named after a Star Trek planet, and that sense that anything can happen seems to fit. Guests range from families and couples to backpackers and solo travellers, so it feels lively and inclusive. I spoke with people in the dorms, and they said the rooms were well above average for Thailand. My bungalow was one of the 12 fan rooms, at 720 baht, under 20 euros a night. It was private, well maintained, and had a hammock, which felt like great value. There are more than 30 bungalows alongside the three dorms. The jungle setting means monkeys and birds can wake you, and it’s under a five-minute walk to Haad Yao, a lovely beach for sunsets. There’s also a private pool. I found the place very clean, the food good, and the Wi-Fi strong, with charging ports everywhere. Laundry was under 100 baht, and my clothes came back washed, folded, and sealed the next day. Hydeout Bar and Restaurant is the heart of the resort. It started as a bar in 2008, then the accommodation, pool, gym, and yoga area came later. The hardwood space is beautiful, built into the rock like a treehouse, and handcrafted by British-Thai owners Seb and View. They’ve put 18 years into it while keeping its character. Seb’s personal service is a real part of the appeal. The owners can arrange transport, tours, yoga, diving, Muay Thai lessons, and trips to local attractions, venues, or Full Moon parties. Just ask, and they’ll try to set up what you’re after. There can be noise at night. A nearby rasta club opens every Friday, and Hydeout can stay open late too, especially when Auzzie Contiki groups are visiting. That late noise is more occasional than predictable, which adds to the quirky feel. I saw guests who clicked with the place extend their stays by days. It books up regularly, so reserve well ahead. I loved my time here.

Really liked this hostel. It’s a quick two-minute walk to the beach, and the food was delicious. The communal area has a very relaxed feel and seems suitable for people of any age. Karim from the staff was great, and made friends with all of us. The curtains in our room kept the light out really well. I’d happily recommend it 😊

The female dorm felt really safe and was a good place to stay. The location is great, though personally I’d say you need a scooter. I enjoyed the free gym and tea, and had tasty breakfasts there. You can ask to add protein powder for some 30 bht. If noise bothers you, bring earplugs 😁

We liked the bungalow, especially its nice porch, and enjoyed the general atmosphere. The location is handy for the beach, and I loved having the gym. A few things got in the way: our sheets had stains, as other reviews have mentioned, and we could hear fairly loud music from the bar and restaurant every evening. We were in one of the closer bungalows. I also can’t recommend eating at the restaurant, since I got food poisoning.
