Wang Sai Resort

The resort itself was quiet, and the general cleanliness seemed fine, but the air conditioning really needs cleaning. Our beach bungalow was the priciest option, and I wouldn’t recommend it. The balcony was the best part. The moldy A/C made us feel sick, and without mosquito protection in the bathroom we were killing 10-15 or more bugs a day. Its door was hard to shut and needed to be locked from both sides, or it swung open and let mosquitoes into the bedroom. The front door was also difficult to lock. Outside, a fixed windscreen had a pole that banged against the bungalow whenever it was windy, so we couldn’t sleep. The pool bungalows looked like they might be a better choice. There are other places on the island at a similar price that I’d choose instead.

We stayed in a pool villa, and the pool area was stunning, really picturesque. The resort is spread out, but you can walk around it. They don’t provide daily housekeeping. They only leave bottled water, coffee, and toilet paper.

We booked a Deluxe Pool View room, which was roomy and had a lovely terrace facing the pool. The pool itself is large and beautiful, a great place to relax. Just steps from the sand, the rooms sit beside one of the island’s prettiest beaches, with a restaurant right on the beachfront that stays open all day. Breakfast is à la carte on the beach, with your feet in the sand. You can also get a Thai massage there. It’s a peaceful, special spot.

The beach was great for snorkeling, and one night we saw bioluminescent plankton. That depends a lot on the season and weather, though, and watch out for jellyfish when visibility is poor. We visited in late September during rainy season. The beach was popular but not packed, although construction at the resort was sometimes noticeable from the beach bar. Our superior bungalow was well equipped, with a very clean tiled bathroom and the rest of the room was clean too. Breakfast at the resort restaurant was convenient, but nothing special and a bit expensive.
