The only real drawback is the limited food variety on this side of the island, since most of it is owned by the same resort chain. I wouldn’t recommend staying more than 3-4 days for that reason. Otherwise, it’s an incredible resort. The rooms are spacious and clean, service is excellent, and there are comfortable sunbeds right by the beach. The ferry from the mainland is included, and this is the right side of the island for sunsets.

The staff, food, and stare were amazing, and the staff were friendly and professional. We’d be glad to return, and surely will soon. I’d suggest including the beach activities in the resort price instead of having an outside company rent paddle boards or surf tables in the resort area. For example, the neighboring resort seemed to have much less infrastructure, staff, and quality, yet had a full set of gear for guests to enjoy the beach. When we tried to rent paddle boards there, they said it was free and their own customers had priority. I think a small tip could help improve the resort activities, especially for families. Thanks.

We were picked up by speed boat and brought to the resort jetty on Koh Samet, just a few steps from the property. The cottage-style suites stretch from the beach and pool up the hillside, where the views are incredible. The private beach faces the sunset side of Samet, and the sunsets really are spectacular. It’s clean and fairly quiet, with clear blue water. We stayed last week and couldn’t fault the service, accommodation, or the attention to detail. Everything in our cottage was beautifully clean and comfortable, and the service was first-rate throughout. You can order a Bhat Bus from reception to get around the island, share one with others, or hire one for 200 Bhat. Ao Prao is an incredible resort for anyone after the luxury and quiet of a private beach without a ridiculous price tag. It was incredible.

Getting into town takes a local Songthaew, a pickup with benches in back, and the ride rattles and bumps along the road. It’s not exactly smooth, but it has its charm. At the other end you can get a local meal, browse the market, or make a much-needed stop at 7-Eleven. Back at the resort, the grounds are immaculate and lead to a clear, inviting ocean. The bungalows are well kept, the beds comfortable, and the thoughtful amenities make them feel like home. Breakfast is a generous, nicely presented buffet, just right before a lazy beach day. The resort is on a semi-private stretch of beach, sharing the shore with a handful of nearby resorts, so there are dining options even in this quiet corner. If you want a peaceful, well-run place on Ko Samet, this is one of the best choices.
