We’d just left after staying a month. The good parts first: the GM and the owners’ son were really friendly and ready to help with requests. Since we were staying so long, we had a micro wave and coffee machine in our room. We liked the quiet, rural feel of the Bankao area, and the hotel’s green, nature-filled setting is beautiful. The room was a nice size and design. On our first night, before we had a scooter, they gave us a free ride to town for dinner. There were some things that didn’t work for us. Room cleaning was every 4 days, but there was still dust on the furniture and around the bed afterwards. At first we had loads of clothes moths, probably from a traditional thai costume hanging as decoration that may never have been vacuumed, and from dust collecting around the natural stones by the bath tub. We asked the GM to remove the decoration, and they did it straight away. The bed was very uncomfortable and the wifi weak. There wasn’t much in the way of hotel service, and the restaurant was closed most of the time. We were told our transfer to the pier was free, or at least no price was mentioned, but the driver charged us 500 thb for the short distance, which felt kind of expensive.

You’ll definitely need transport to get around from here. Ban Kao is a quiet area, good if you want peace or a cosy base. It felt more like a Great bachelor pad than a hotel, and was great value for money since I spent most of my days out, then came back to plan the next day and relax at night. The staff were extremely helpful and went above and beyond.

We had a great month in one of the villas. The complex is made up of several villas, and I guess it might have security if they were all full. Ours was big and cosy, with 2b2b, and we had a great time. The driveway is rough, though.

The staff are friendly and it’s a very calm place. Getting a motorbike or taxi is really expensive, though. The roads leading to the hotel are extremely bad and have very little lighting.

I came for two weeks and, during my first week, extended for another two. It was exactly what I wanted, quiet and relaxing. The manager takes care of all your needs, and the owners’ son Pond is truly amazing. Nothing is a problem here. I highly recommend Ban Kao if you’re after a friendly, peaceful place. Thank you, I’ll be back in August.
