Victorian Samui Condominium

For a short visit, the place was just about okay, but I wouldn’t choose it again. The extra 1,800 baht charge for electricity and water over 27 days caught me off guard, especially since I only ran the air conditioning in the evenings. The hygiene problems and aging facilities were also a concern. The air conditioning itself worked reliably, but the beds were extremely hard and the blankets much too heavy for a tropical climate. Equipment varied a lot between the visibly dated rooms. The fridge and hot plate partly didn’t work, while the TV and internet were very old and painfully slow. In the lower rooms there were cockroaches, and some drains smelled bad. The manager was friendly, though not especially proactive. I only found out by chance that there was a coin-operated washing machine, since nobody had mentioned it.

The residential area was quiet, and the deal made this good value for money. The rooms had enough plates and cutlery, plus a microwave, and the pool was nice to use. The gym equipment was in poor shape, with broken cables and other issues. Wi-Fi reception was weak in the top back room.

It’s a basic condo that covers what we need. The pool is lovely, and being away from the main track makes the condos very quiet.

We spent six weeks here, and the apartments felt clean and safe, with decent furniture. The pool area is a real plus, and the location worked well: about 10 minutes to Chaweng central or the beach, and 5 minutes to the closest supermarket and street food. You can also rent a scooter at reception, which was great. The kitchen setup wasn’t really sufficient. We had to buy our own cutlery and cooking things just to make breakfast. The place only provides two towels, so we bought more rather than use the same ones for the pool and shower. The gym equipment was pretty poor too.
