Dusit Buncha Koh Tao by Riya Group

The snorkeling right in front of Dusit Buncha Resort was a highlight: clear water, colorful fish and lots of great photo spots. Our room was spacious and clean, and waking up to the sea from the balcony felt refreshing. The resort has wide views over Koh Nang Yuan, and the sunset was one of the most beautiful moments of my first trip to Koh Tao. It’s in a quiet area, with a peaceful, relaxing feel that’s ideal for a getaway. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the shuttle to town made things convenient. If you want lovely sea views and memorable sunsets in a calm setting, it’s worth returning to.

We’ll definitely return. The peaceful setting, spectacular nature, relaxed atmosphere and excellent service make it a place where you feel welcome and can properly unwind. It’s outside the busy center, which suited us, though it is a little way from town. A small shop with basic necessities on site would be a nice addition, so guests wouldn’t have to go into town for small items. The view is unbeatable, especially at sunset, and alone makes the stay worthwhile. We first had a Hill room, which felt brand new, spacious and fresh, with a dream view. Since we don’t drive a motorbike, the way up the hill was challenging, but they immediately offered another room without any fuss. We appreciated that. The rooms are clean and well equipped; since our 2023 visit, extra hanging space has been added. Both pools are lovely: the renovated pool area looks fantastic, and the second new pool is a great place to relax. Staff are exceptionally friendly, attentive and helpful, and seem to take care of things before you ask. Reception can arrange ferry tickets, excursions and laundry. The shuttle to town and Koh Nang Yuan works perfectly, room service is excellent, and WhatsApp communication is easy. We loved breakfast. It may feel different at first if you expect the exact breakfast you have at home in Europe, but it’s extensive, delicious and well prepared if you’re open to trying things. Egg dishes like poached eggs and omelets are cooked fresh to order. The restaurant has plenty of choice, from affordable authentic Thai dishes to fine dining and Western food.

For the price, it didn’t feel worth it. There was renovation work during our stay, so it wasn’t peaceful, even though the location is away from the beach. Getting around was difficult: the hotel is far from everything and needs a commute. Walking is possible, but the steep hills make it exhausting, and the resort shuttle options were very limited. Breakfast was okay, with a nice view. The staff at the omelet and waffle station were kind and friendly. Rooms were spacious, but the bathroom layout was odd and impractical, and the bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable. There are lots of steep steps around the property to reach the main areas. The pool loungers had visible mold, and the towels were worn, with frayed edges. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

The room was lovely, and the view from it was breathtaking. We had a great stay, but be ready for plenty of walking. The rooms are far from the lobby and restaurant, and getting there took a long time and could be exhausting. A shuttle would make a big difference. Keep the hills in mind.
