We couldn't wait to get out. The rooms smelled really bad, the shower kept going between hot and cold, and the mattress was about an inch thick and awful. A double bed came with just two tiny pillows. The rooms were clean, and you can park inside, so that's where the two stars come from. Check-in took the guy half an hour. He didn't believe my Thai wife lived in England and wanted to report our stay to immigration, which was just barmy. We had agreed on a 2pm checkout, but at noon he started making a fuss about us not leaving, even though we were already loading the suitcases. He was very nosy too. Whenever people left their rooms, he went in to see if they'd switched off all the electrics. We saw him do it to others as well. Weird behaviour.

For 300 baht, a fan room is the cheapest option around, but they're scarce and almost always taken. I ended up renting an air-conditioned room for 400 baht even though the weather was cool and I didn't use it. I'd wanted an ordinary room, so that was a shame. The room was okay and the bathroom was spacious. If you're easygoing and only need somewhere to sleep without anything fancy, I'd give it full marks.

A budget spot right in central Nakhon Phanom, with on-site parking and the basics: air conditioning or a fan, TV, and a water heater. The rooms are roomy, dated, but clean, with firm pillows and old blankets. The ground floor feels a bit stuffy, though the upper floors are okay. Seems suitable for backpackers or cyclists.

They ask your job as soon as you check in, then want to know when you're checking out. If you stay past the time you gave them, they'll knock right away, worried you won't leave even though it's not even noon yet. Such attentive, caring service. I really liked it and will definitely stay again. If you want service beyond 5 stars, this is the place.

Staying at Wiang In Hotel in Nakhon Phanom was comfortable, and the bathroom was clean and pleasant too. I came for the Buddhist Lent festival, and it was handy to find somewhere to stay. 😊😊😊
