Grandsiri Resort Khaoyai

The resort is well located and decent value, though it looks a bit dated. I didn’t use the facilities. At reception I got the keys and a ride to the building where the room was. That part was fine, but the room was twin beds instead of the king I’d booked. I called reception and was told they were fully booked. When I walked over there, they immediately gave me the key to the room I’d actually booked.

There was plenty for the students to do around the resort, including a soccer field, basketball court, pool, and places to hang out. Ban Tha Chang is about a 30-minute walk away, and our group had a meeting room. The resort was communicative and accommodating, and they put the boys and girls in separate buildings as we’d requested. My building had clean, modern, renovated rooms. Meals were a letdown. We’d planned them in advance for our group of around 30, but the food ran out each time. The meat was often overcooked, seasoning was sparse, and breakfast was mostly the same every day. The pool looked nice but felt oddly slimy. It also took a long time to get things we asked for, like extra towels and water. We might return, and I hope those things improve.

I was very disappointed with the service. A dead cockroach had been on the floor since the previous day and was still there in the same place. It was frightening. The beds were left messy, and no one had cleaned the room. The front desk said I should leave a sign if I wanted housekeeping, but I hadn’t seen any sign mentioned. The maid could also have knocked and asked if it was okay to come in.

The views are lovely, and the staff were really friendly. There seem to be activities for both children and adults, though they weren’t open because of Covid. The Thai-style wooden cabins are a little small, but the rooms in the nearby buildings are very nice.
