The Chiva Sanctuary Khao Yai

I felt unsafe and cancelled the reservation, accepting the loss of the money. I'm not sure whether it was low season, but on check-in day the hotel looked deserted, with no guests, security guards, or receptionists. The trees and grass seemed overgrown and neglected. Only the B2 hotel side was open; I drove around the front building and saw empty rooms, and the buildings inside seemed to be inhabited by foreign workers. I had booked and paid through Booking.com but hadn't heard anything from the hotel, which already seemed strange. There was nobody there, not even staff.

The resort has a new management company, but the rooms are clean and the atmosphere is pleasant. Food is available, though you have to pay separately for it.

The rooms were quiet and peaceful, and the housekeeping staff were all very polite. The female receptionist was especially helpful and attentive. The night security guard, though, was unwelcoming. I asked about booking extra rooms and he told me to call the central number for availability. He seemed annoyed by my questions and unwilling to answer. That was disappointing, especially since I'd booked 9 rooms.

The peaceful atmosphere was lovely. Rooms were clean, and breakfast was provided.
