Khaosok River Camp

The staff were friendly, but that was the only good part of our stay. We booked two separate rooms a month ahead and arrived to find only one available because another guest was still in the second. They offered no solution at first. After we objected, they gave us 10% off, which didn’t make up for it. The room was in bad shape, with thin walls and gaps that let bugs in. The bathroom didn’t drain properly, so showering left the whole floor flooded. Breakfast was awful compared with other places we tried in Thailand. The hotel is far from the village too. A shared taxi costs 300 baht even for one person, stops at several hotels, and takes ages. Do not come here.

The staff were nice and agreed to make breakfast early, and they helped arrange a taxi. The food was okay. Still, we’d booked two bungalows and had confirmation, but were told only one was available when we arrived. I also asked for fresh towels and didn’t get them. On another occasion, staff asked if I wanted the room cleaned. I said yes, but when we returned that evening it hadn’t been cleaned, and there were only new towels left on the terrace table.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the camp sits in a lovely spot by the river. A very friendly and helpful woman met us when we arrived. We booked a short canoe trip for that afternoon and a full-day lake trip for the next day. We had dinner there the first night, then got a free ride to the village for dinner on the second.

It’s a little way from the center, but the owner kindly picked us up and dropped us off, so getting around was easy. She was one of the kindest people we met, and everyone made us feel welcome. The area itself is so quiet and peaceful, just right for resting and being in nature. We had a wonderful time here.
