The rooms are tiny, about 20 square metres, with a sitting area, a small kitchen containing a very old washing machine, a sleeping space and a little bathroom. If your unit faces the road, the bed is right by it and the traffic noise goes on day and night. I couldn't sleep without earplugs. Outside, the lack of upkeep is obvious: peeling paint and rust everywhere, including the lobby mailboxes. There isn't a proper entrance, just the garage exit, and its carport has been broken for months. The lobby reception is never staffed. At 2,500 baht a night, I'd stay somewhere else. A notice in the lobby says one-night bookings aren't allowed, either.

The neglected state of the building's public areas makes me feel sorry for the tenants and owners. Building management should be ashamed. Where are the maintenance fees going? One picture says it all.

We rented a cosy, very clean apartment for a few days through airbnb, and having a gym and pool in the shared areas was a plus. The pool needs attention, though: tiles are broken all over. Getting in means going through the garage, since there seems to be no building entrance. With a stroller, you have to duck under a boom, which is a pretty silly setup. Coming out puts you straight onto a busy road with no pavement, not great with kids. Nearby restaurants make a lot of noise late at night, and fireworks over the water are common.

Zcape condo is in a handy spot near Bangtao beach. Villa market, restaurants, a hairsalon, massage shop and wine shop are all just a few minutes' walk away.
