The food tasted good, and the staff were all good, but the kitchen was slow. Our orders repeatedly took 30 minutes even when it wasn't busy. Bathrooms on our floor also had a funky smell. The bigger issue was noise. Rooms open onto a shared courtyard, and the building seemed cheaply made with little or no insulation. Doors closing echoed everywhere. People talking in the courtyard at 5 a.m. came through like a call to prayer broadcast into the room, and guests in rooms beside us sounded as if they were right there watching TV or looking after their kids. We couldn't get a good night's sleep, and those problems seem hard to fix once a building is built. The hotel is in a quiet part of town near the pier for transfers, which is exactly why we picked it. The decor is a matter of taste, and it's clearly shown in the photos, so I don't think that alone warrants a bad review. The mixed reviews make sense. If we'd slept well, we would've loved the stay.

Watching the sun go down with a beer by the pool was genuinely relaxing, and the facilities were great. The service was friendly, too. But the location was a real drawback, even though the hotel itself was good. At high tide the ocean looks lovely, but at low tide you can see tires and bicycle parts sticking out of the mud. There are also derelict boats off to the side, and you can't swim in the sea nearby. Everything is far away, and many taxis won't pick you up or bring you back from the area's main attractions. Mixed feelings overall.

It's a very clean hotel, and the air conditioning is great. I liked having a gym, bar, and laundry service, with a 7-Eleven about half a mile down the road if you want to walk for supplies. My shower was only lukewarm, though, with no proper hot water. I also made the mistake of walking into town. Watch out for the big dogs roaming around, they aren't necessarily friendly.

The hotel was okay, but far from anything good. The gym was decent, though it had no air conditioning and got really hot, sweaty, and uncomfortable. The towels were the worst part. They were full of holes and frayed, every day we were given them. That's unacceptable in any hotel and left a bad impression.

The photos and the name Foto Hotel Phuket made me excited to book, but the stay was nothing like the image they sold. After a flight of more than 15 hours, we arrived exhausted and were told at 8 p.m. to wait at the bar while they changed the bed. We went along, confused. We were hungry, so we tried to have dinner. The restaurant was open, but after a 30-minute wait they told us the sushi we'd ordered wasn't available anymore. An hour later, two tasteless tacos arrived. Then, after another 40 minutes, we found a hair in our food. While we were ordering, the server's phone rang and he told us to wait while he took the call instead of serving us. This was unacceptable service for a place calling itself a four-star hotel. When we finally reached the room, there was a pearl earring on the floor, so it clearly hadn't been cleaned properly. The bed was dirty too. There was no hot water for showers, and the staff were unfriendly and unprofessional. The hotel felt poorly managed and overpriced for what it offered. The sea in front is unusable: the water is black and polluted by fuel from old fishing boats, with fishermen all around. Activities offered in the lobby were overpriced and poorly organized. You're better off booking excursions through GetYourGuide and using Grab to get to the meeting points. Good photos, terrible reality. It markets itself as a four-star place, but in my experience it doesn't deserve even two stars. This was by far my worst experience in Thailand. Save your money, time, and peace of mind, and look elsewhere.
