River Kwai Jungle Rafts Resort (SHA Extra Plus)

We went on a day tour and really enjoyed the rafting. Lunch was included, and they gave us life jackets before we set off.

There’s no road access to the lodge, so getting there by boat is part of the experience. We parked at the dock, were escorted onto the boat, then traveled along the River Kwai. The ride was short, but arriving this way feels very different from an ordinary hotel check-in, and that’s what makes the accommodation special. The harbor is plain but practical and organized, and the transfer ran smoothly. For us, it was simply the start of the lodge stay, with a nice boat arrival thrown in.

The scenery and atmosphere are lovely, but our first room made sleeping difficult. There was boat noise all night, and a strong lamp oil smell. On the second night, they moved us to a much nicer room where we could hear only nature. There’s no electricity. Breakfast was average, and the salad vegetables hadn’t been washed properly. The set dinner was edible, but neither fresh nor tasty, and seemed to have been made by a non-Thai chef. The pork smelled off, and the vegetables again weren’t washed well. Staff were chatting and looking at their phones. The food needs work, and better staff manners and training would make a big difference in such a beautiful setting.
