Avoid this place unless you’re after a negative adventure. The rooms are musty, the walls mouldy, and the photos don’t match. The sink edges can cut you. There isn’t a low outlet for the kettle, so you have to balance it on an old cushion on a heavy teak chair, which is dangerous. No toilet paper holder, and without a shower door or curtain the whole bathroom gets wet. The bathroom fan is clogged, spider webs hang around its only dim light, and the bedhead is filthy, with what look like old boogers still on it.

The location is handy, about a 700 m walk from Mon Bridge, but there’s no shared area. Our four-person room felt dated and didn’t look like the Agoda photos, so it seems overrated there. Breakfast was very basic, and the stay overall felt a bit rough.

Ban Suan Somboon sounds like a cozy spot for classic Thai food, the sort of place where the kitchen puts care into its dishes. You can picture fragrant herbs and spices, a bowl of hot tom yum with its spicy, sour, savory mix, or creamy green curry with chicken or vegetables. That said, a well-known “local gem” can get crowded, and a fiery chili dish might test your spice tolerance. That’s part of the Thai food experience, though. Ban Suan Somboon seems like a friendly place to relax over home-style cooking, with each dish carrying a little warmth and care.

It’s handy for the wooden bridge and there’s a car park. The room was spacious and looked clean, but I didn’t feel it was worth the price. I couldn’t sleep well because I was itchy all over for some reason, and the thin walls let the dogs’ barking through the night.

We had two triple rooms, both comfortable, with new, quiet air conditioners. They were good value, though don’t expect a view. The twins at reception were especially sweet and helpful.
