Decho Hostel

The receptionist was super friendly and helpful, and the place is clean, affordable, and nicely located right in the centre of Walking Street. The landmark is a small road on your left, just before A plus hotel. I had a double room on the ground floor with decent WiFi. It got really cold at night even with only a fan, and they provided a towel and shower cream. Bring anything else you need yourself. There was a big mosquito around, but it didn’t bother us. Ground-floor rooms may have a slight sewer smell. Love love it, a very nice place to stay in Koh lipe!

This was probably my worst stay in more than three years of constant travel. I leave good reviews about 97% of the time after doing careful research, so I can’t believe this place has an 8.8 rating. At check-in, I was told I’d get a free upgrade to a double room. The mattress felt like cement, it was brutally hot, and my roommate from Italy was awful. They gave me a list of rules, stood around naked, and were just a terrible person. The sheets were the breaking point. Mine had several brown smudges, and when I asked for clean ones, the staff member suggested they might be from my roommate leaning over to use the fan. The pillow clearly smelled like someone else. I was told the sheets could be changed tomorrow. I asked another woman for clean ones when she was showing people a room, but she didn’t speak English and didn’t understand. Those people had turned down the room because its AC didn’t work, so I took sheets from one of the beds myself. I know that wasn’t my proudest moment, but I needed clean sheets. Those were dirty on both sides too. They were also weird about giving me a towel. The room hadn’t been swept, the bin was full, and the bathroom was always dirty, with overflowing trash and a urine smell. I booked two nights and didn’t sleep at all the first night. Since they were fully booked and could have sold the room to a walk-in, I asked for my money back for night two. She argued, then gave me 330 baht from the 400 I’d paid after I threatened to leave a bad review. I appreciated getting at least that much. The place has potential, but it’s poorly run, seems understaffed, and doesn’t seem willing to wash sheets after each guest. At a minimum of $13 a night, they can afford to wash them. I’d never come back.

Song Chan double booked us and moved us here, so we stayed one night. It was fine for a budget stop, with a very basic room and no AC or hot water.

The staff were very nice and spoke English well. The place is new and centrally located, and the rooms were clean and well furnished. There’s no view, and the small windows are on the first floor. When we first opened them, there was a bit of a smell. All the beaches are within walking distance.
